Anonymous asked: I take Rimactane, but I am also on the pill. I am going though a pregnancy scare right now and I wanted to know how much it reduces the effectiveness of the pill. I've looked everywhere, but I can't seem to find any straight answers. Do you know if it makes a HUGE impact, or just a little one?
Unfortunately there’s not a lot of studies on the affect of particular medications or birth control. Which means it’s impossible to say exactly what the impact would be or how big your chances of pregnancy are.
Now you could use the “imperfect use” statistic, which is the percentage chance of pregnancy when using the pill imperfectly as taking antibiotics is under the category of imperfect use. That’s approximately a 9% chance of pregnancy, although that’s not an exact estimate.
Sorry I can’t really give you a more definite answer, just try not to worry and take a pregnancy test if you miss your period altogether or it’s lighter than usual.
