Anonymous asked: Why can't period blood be saved and donated to the hospital for transplants?
Because it’s not just blood. It has a lot of uterine tissue (and somewhere in it an egg), so it can’t be used in blood transfusions. More people are doing research in the medical uses of menstrual blood (like possibly stem cells) but as I’ve mentioned before the medical/scientific community has always been at odds with bodies that have vaginas. A lot of diseases that strike mostly DFAB people don’t get as much research funding as diseases that are prevalent among DMAB people (with the exception of breast cancer because you know, breasts are our most important features) and there’s not a lot of research done on how DFAB bodies work especially sexually (the clitoris is a relatively recent discovery, the g-spot has been wrongly disproved, and we still don’t know exactly how ejaculation/squirting works). Luckily this is begining to change as more DFAB people get in the medical and scientific industry and as we figure out exactly how similar DFAB and DMAB bodies are (more and more DMAB people are getting specific conditions and diseases that were previously thought as a mainly DFAB issue).
