It can be hard, yes, especially when you're not very flexible (I'm definitely not) but I realized not too long ago penetration was painful due to my pubic hair being so long that it would get pulled during penetrative sex. :) Also, trimming can be made easier with electric beard clippers - they have those length guards on them for measuring, so you can trim safely by feel. :)
